| Accident |
An unplanned event that results in
the damage to or loss of property, limb or life. The law requires
that an accident be reported
if it results in an employee being required to be absent from
work for more than two days. |
|
| Auto Ignition Temperature |
The temperature at which an explosive mixture
ignites without an external source of ignition. |
|
| Explosive Limit |
A concentration of a contaminant in air such
that the mixture will just propagate a flame. For almost all
contaminants there is a lower concentration below which the
mixture will not propagate a flame |
|
| Flash Point |
The temperature at which a flammable liquid
produces a sufficient amount of vapour to just flash a flame
across the top, if a source of ignition is supplied close to
the surface. The flash point is to be distinguished from the
Fire point . |
|
| Fire Point |
The temperature at which a flammable liquid
produces a sufficient amount of vapour to produce and sustain
a flame if a source of ignition is supplied close to the surface.
The flash point is to be distinguished from the Fire point .
|
|
| Incident |
An unplanned event that would have resulted in
the damage to or loss of property, limb or life, had someone,
been in the vicinity of the unplanned occurence. |
|
| Maximum Acceptable Concentration |
Also known as: Maximum permissible concentration,
threshold concentration, threshold limit, maximum allowable
concentration. The value below which it is considered desireable
to maintain the concentration of an air-borne contminant. |
|
| Maximum Permissible Concentration |
Also known as: Maximum Acceptable Concentration,
threshold concentration, threshold limit, maximum allowable
concentration. The value below which it is considered desireable
to maintain the concentration of an air-borne contminant. |
|
| Maximum Allowable Concentration |
Also known as: Maximum Acceptable Concentration
, threshold concentration, threshold limit, Maximum Permissible
Concentration. The value below which it is considered desireable
to maintain the concentration of an air-borne contminant. |
